X displays profile pictures as circles across the timeline, profile page, and replies, and the timeline version is small — easy to miss detail in until you see it at that size. This editor previews the circular crop up front instead of leaving it to X's own upload tool.
Most people see a profile picture on X as the small circle next to a post, not the larger version on a profile page. A crop that looks well-balanced at full size in the editor can end up feeling cluttered or off-center once it's shrunk to that timeline size.
Zooming in slightly more than seems necessary, and keeping the main subject away from the very edge of the circle, tends to hold up better once the picture is small.
X's own upload flow lets you reposition a square image inside a circular preview, which is effectively what Circle mode in this editor does ahead of time. Doing that step here means you're deciding the crop deliberately rather than relying on X's default centering.
